The King’s Hawaiian Pork & Slaw, Goodbye Summer Grub

It’s the weekend where summer officially turns to fall and we’ll be bombarded with even more seasonal treats.  Everywhere you look there’s something with pumpkin in it.  I just hit up Firehouse Subs and saw that their King’s Hawaiian Pork & Slaw was still on the menu.  Since I figured  this summer sandwich would soon be off the menu for a while, I decided to order it.

King's Hawaiian Pork SlawThe sandwich features a sweet, soft King’s Hawaiian bun, a pile of smoked pulled pork, creamy coleslaw, and Wisconsin pepper jack cheese.  I enjoyed the King’s Hawaiian Pork & Slaw as a first timer and I look forward to getting in on it earlier next go-around.  This sandwich was a great example of fast casual summer grub.  So as we say goodbye to the season, what summer grub will you miss the most?  What limited time summer items were your favorites this year?  What are you looking forward to seeing next year?  Discussion time!

I miss the chicken waffle tenders from Popeyes, one of, if not the best, new thing I had this year.
Togo’s http://www.togos.com/What-s-Happening.aspx still has their pulled pork on the menu, and it’s battling the aforementioned tenders for top spot, but I don’t know how long it’s going to be around

The chicken waffle tenders were GROSS.

why’s that? I had them twice, and they were awesome both times, especially considering how crispy they stayed in transit. Now their fries, they were a different story LOLz

i didnt’t find them gross but they were nothing special. i also never got the sauce both times i ordered so maybe that would’ve made a difference…

Maybe not truly a “summer only” special, but I am really missing Arby’s Turkey Mighty Minis with the Crispy Onions. They are only carrying the Roast Beef ones now on their new Snack n’ Save menu, and will not allow substitutions. Easily one of the best sandwiches I have tried at a fast food restaurant – loved the roast turkey combined with the sauce on top and crispy onions on those little bakery rolls.

I had the Pork & Slaw sandwich and while it was good, it was damn messy. I think either the slaw was too watery or they put too much sauce on there.
