I recall the $5 recession box back in the fall of 2008. That was a great deal. In fact, some even called it a “staple” of the times.

$5 back then would get you a crunchwarp supreme (they still had spicy chicken then), a burrito supreme, a volcano taco, large drink, and cinnamon twists.

Of course, inflation thanks to the Fed has kicked in, but oh well… good times back then.

About time! Love these, wish they would keep them permanently, maybe add them to their cravings menu.

I guess you’re pointing out that these products have salt in them? And suggesting that salt is bad for you?

Anecdotal evidence doesn’t make it true. Drink some water and get over it.

      http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/03/opinion/sunday/we-only-think-we-know-the-truth-about-salt.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

      • Yaj says:

Salt can definitely be bad for you, as can anything in large amounts, and your link doesn’t refute that statement. If you’re consuming 2,400mg of sodium for every meal, Jay, I’m afraid that your kidneys may get over being kidneys sooner than later.

        • Jay says:

Ridiculous. The first problem with any of these arguments is that nobody can define what constitutes “too much” or “large amounts” for the public in general because people have individual reactions to everything they take into their systems. So for a governing body (or you) to say that XXXX amount of salt is the RDA is a silly statement especially when it’s predicated on data from 30+ years ago. Back when they told us that eggs and real butter were killing us and we should all switch to margarine and cooking with trans-fats instead of lard.

How’d that work out for ya?

As to the rest of your statement:

ANYTHING in large amounts can be bad for you? Like lettuce, cabbage, carrots..ANYTHING?

The link shows that according to more recent testing, the things we thought we knew about salt and it’s impact on the human system, are old arguments that don’t seem to hold water.

I don’t watch my salt intake and my nearly 50 year old kidneys just got a sparkling clean bill of health for my latest life insurance purchase thank you. So when you say sooner rather then later, I’ve got to assume at this point that you would mean somewhere around 80-90 years old for me. I can live with that.

Next you’ll be telling me that the current wave of gluten free eating plans aren’t a ridiculous fad. lmao.

I’ll never understand why “healthies” hang around a fast food blog, making silly posts about how bad the food is for you.

I can honestly say that I plan to basically get two a day until this promotion is over with … minus sour cream, of course. I don’t know what it is about it. Well, I do. It’s the crunch and the Fritos … it’s unlike a lot of what’s on the Taco Bell menu. IT’S ACTUALLY DIFFERENT.

    Plus, the price is right.

    MAKE IT PERMANENT, TACO BELL.

I’d get overweight/obese for you if that’s what you want!

  5. Rusty Shackleford says:

The only time I had that a while back, the fritos certainly didn’t seem “flamin’ hot”. Just like regular soggy corn ships. Sort of like the Volcano burrito without the volcano sauce or whatever.

  6. Fastfoodfanstan says:

Whats in the DLT box, besides Dorito Locs tacos?

  7. Zachary Jacob Zblewski says:

I guess the voices of the 3,000,000 (read: 16,000) people on Facebook were heard!

  8. Scrape says:

Add some cinnamon twists in on the box deal and you’ll have a winner. They used to come with them, but I guess with the price of farm raising the twists so high, they had to drop them.

  9. Ron says:

Kind of bummed the $5 box is 5.50 now and doesnt include Twists anymore.

  10. krayzie says:

I had 2 beefy crunch burritos yesterday and they were great. I am actually surprised the taco bells around me aren’t trying to charge more than 99 cents. They charge $5.50 for the $5 box, $2.25 for the $2 meals and $1.79 for the beefy 5 layer burrito. Hell I noticed yesterday that the bean burrito isn’t even $1 anymore.

  11. Raiders757 says:

I don’t buy anything that’s over a $1 at Taco Bell, so my cheap ass is happy to see this return.

  12. ChefLo says:

I was literally counting down the days til this came back! Bought 2 yesterday (also minus sour cream) and i’ll check at my local TB to see if the $5 box with beefy crunch, crunchwrap supreme and taco exists, because holy cow, i’ll buy at least 2 a week.

  13. Joe says:

Bought my two yesterday as well! Had a side of nacho cheese to dip them in! Freaking awesome! The manager said they will only be around for two months so stock up!

  14. Jonathan Wayne says:

Don’t get me wrong I like this and there is a 99% chance I will get one later tonight, but it is kind of sad people are so excited about this.

    • Alex K. says:

I think it’s about as sad as using a website to keep you up-to-date on fast food news. Touche? Alright then.

    • Raiders757 says:

Don’t think of it as sad. It’s the little things in life that bring people the most joy, so there’s always room for a little bit of excitement over a tasty bit of junk food that you don’t get to have very often. Heck, you should have seen my excitement when I found ribs and hickory wood on sale at my local market this morning. You would have thought I won the Showcase Showdown on The Price is Right.

  15. Joe says:

    Why is it sad?

If Taco Bell puts out a great menu item for a bargain price it’s hard not to get excited about it. I’d rather be on GrubGrade then on some other website reading about some corrupt politican or mass shooting.

  16. rondoman says:

Picked up 4 of these last nite! I forgot how big they were! I ate 2 and was full. Might be the best value in fast food.

  17. CC says:

They are selling this here for $1.39 apiece, and the box is $6.50
