The Wait is Almost Over at KFC: The Return of the Double Down?

I’m not sure what this is about but the KFC website has a countdown.  Is it the return of the Double Down?  The Double Down was released nationwide in April 2010 and these limited time offerings are sometimes pretty cyclical month to month.  As of writing this, the wait will be over April 14th.KFC Wait

UPDATE?:

Darrell Martinsen says:

“Ryan I have it on good authority that the countdown is for New Boneless Chicken Filets and they will be available in light or dark! Also, wanted to let you know that our local KFC never stopped serving the Double Downs. I guess they do better in some areas than others.”

I really hope it’s the Twister, because the Double Down is just disgusting.

  2. Rick says:

Maybe it’ll be them pulling the plug. They’ve steadily gone downhill the last 5 years..

You know, I really thought this too, until I finally discovered near work a KFC that was both busy and has employees that give a crap. The food has certainly decreased in quality over the years, yes, but it is by no means terrible if you can actually manage to get it fresh. In fact, the recent return of their chicken pot pie to the menu has been amazing. I always thought KFC made the best pot pie of the chains, and it’s exactly as I remember it being. The original recipe bites with gravy is also quite good as well. That said, I will only eat at the KFC near work. The one near my house is absolutely terrible, and I suspect was the cause of getting sick multiple times in the past. It’s truly unfortunate that there are so many bad KFC franchises, because the food still CAN be good.

Are they going to finally start putting some herbs & seasoning on the Original Recipe chicken again?

  4. Alex K. says:

..What? I’ve always had the Double Down. I had one just last week (in Michigan).

  5. Roger C. says:

It can’t be kept secret because the restaurant’s employees have to prepare to add it to the menu. So we should find out very soon.

  6. Cory says:

Please let it be the fiery grilled wings!!! Did anyone else love those?

That must have been a test item. It never came out in my area.

They sound like Peri Peri chicken to me. You should try that sometime if it’s in your area.

    Watch it be the apocalypse.

  8. Bill says:

The double down is here in NC so it might not be that, maybe it is the double down with hot gravy, or maybe the double down with new dipping sauces.

I just want the original snackers to come back. The chicken little is decent enough I guess, but the days when I could buy buffalo snackers for a buck were glorious…

  11. Leon Sandcastle says:

I’m fine with the leftover bowl……. Errr… I mean famous bowl. That stuff is delicious!

    Blazing Strips or bust

  13. Blazing Strips or bust

The spicy buffalo or whatever they used to call the spicy strips were amazing. they need to bring those back. Haven’t seen them in probably 12 years, if not longer.

  14. Steven says:

So everybody wants anything but the Double Down. Count me in with the camp that didn’t know it left.

  15. Roger C. says:

New Boneless Chicken Filets in White or Dark? Yeah, no wonder KFC came up with this lame countdown; they were too embarrassed to announce this ahead of time. Please, come back with the Twister. It was awesome. The corporate monkeys are idiots.

  16. Nick Rovo says:

To all the people commenting about the twister, I guess it must be a regional thing because my local kfc still carries them. They were just promoting a meal deal a few weeks ago centered around the twister as well.

  17. Sascha says:

A dark chicken boneless filet? Count me in.

  18. BDK says:

I hope it’s none of these suggestions. Why would they make such a big deal over things they’ve already introduced in the past?
