Taste the Linsanity from Ben & Jerry’s

February 26, 2012 By: Ryan Category: Food News

Taste the Linsanity is a limited release (Harvard Square Scoop Shop) Ben & Jerry’s frozen yogurt product that features lychee honey swirls and a waffle cookie that can be used for dipping or be used as a crushed topping.  The dessert was made in tribute to the rising success of Taiwanese-American NBA point guard Jeremy Lin.

There is controversy though… originally, fortune cookies were used in place of the waffle cookie (see bottom of pint container description pictured above).  Offensive perhaps?  Ben & Jerry’s Boston on Twitter has issued this apology:

On behalf of Ben & Jerry’s Boston Scoop Shops we offer a heartfelt apology if anyone was offended by our handmade Linsanity flavor that we offered at our Harvard Square location.  We are proud and honored to have Jeremy Lin hail from one of our fine, local universities and we are huge sports fans.  We were swept up in the nationwide Linsanity momentum.  Our intention was to create a flavor to honor Jeremy Lin’s accomplishments and his meteoric rise in the NBA, and recognize that he was a local Harvard graduate.  We try demonstrate our commitment as a Boston-based, value-led business & if we failed this instance we offer our sincere apologies. – Boston Ben & Jerry’s Team

  1. Stay away from the Linda Lovelace, Deep throat limited edition.

  2. I’m willing to bet whoever was offended by the fortune cookie, was offended on someone else’s behalf. People take something dumb and fun way too seriously and ruin stuff for everyone. A fortune cookie topping sounds delicious.

  3. Why would anyone be offended by fortune cookies? Sure, they’re an American invention, and not the highest form of cookie life, but so what?

  5. They should have included chunks of MSG in it. It would have been delicious.
