Food News: The Burger King Buck Double

Take a slice of cheese from the Burger King Double Cheeseburger and what do you get?  The Buck Double.

The new Buck Double sandwich, featuring two flame-broiled burger patties, a slice of American cheese, crunchy pickles, ketchup and mustard on a sesame seed bun – all for just a “BUCK.” The sandwich boasts more beef than McDonald’s® McDouble and is now available on the BK® Value Menu.

Huh, why did I think it was (gonna be) called the BK Dollar Double?…

  2. steve says:

mcd’s went the same route. double cheeseburger used to be on the dollar menu. then they took away a slice of cheese and boom u got the mcdouble. i guess that extra slice of cheese puts it over the top from a cost perspective? still a solid deal, though.

  3. Adam says:

I would get this and subtract the cheese. I love the whopper jr., and this is like it with double the fun.

    • Michael says:

What I always did at BK is order the double cheeseburger(for $1) and say I wanted ketchup, mayo, lettuce and tomato. Then it was like a double whopper jr with cheese for the same price! I guess now I will just order a Buck Double with the same stuff! :o)

  4. Adam Bomb says:

I think “Buck Double” is a bad name for the sandwich. That being said, I think it’s still a really decent deal. I didn’t miss the second slice of cheese when I tried it recently.

  5. Crusader says:

Way too much bun to meat ratio for my liking. Give me the beef!!!

    • rightclue says:

these burger joints do allow you to get a bunless sandwich… though usually on the bigger burgers. they just wrap it in romaine lettuce and put it into a small salad container

  6. Raiders757 says:

I love me some cheese, but as with the original double cheeseburger at Mcdonald’s, I thought there was no need for two slices on the BK version as well. I have no problem with this move.

I agree as well, the Buck Double is a sad name. dollar Double would be much better. Still, it’s only a name.

  7. Francois says:

I’ve also never found two slices in these major fast-food chain burgers to add anything to the actual burger. It might even subtract from what little taste there actually is in the thing.

“Buck Double” is an odd name. Normally the marketing types try to create something that rolls off your tongue easily. You don’t see too many hard consonants that are pronounced in different parts of your mouth like the “k” and “d” in this name, do you? “Buck Double” should be somebody’s porn name, not a damn burger.

  8. T.J. says:

So what will they raise the price of the Double Cheeseburger to? I remember it being kind of expensive before it was $1

    • james says:

i just got one by mistake (would have gotten the buck double if i’d had known about the price change) and it came out to 1.27 after tax, so i guess it’s still only about 1.20, not much more expensive

    • Ryan says:

Yeah $1.19 for the true double cheeseburger.

  9. Ryan says:

Are you people crazy? Removing a slice of cheese is damn near criminal! The McDonalds double was my all-time favorite, but I dropped them to the curb once they cut out a slice and I went to BK. But now THEY have gone the cheap-o route too, so I guess it’s on to JitB.
For companies that basically print money, they sure don’t care to pass the savings on down to us, do they?
    BRING BACK THE EXTRA SLICE!!!

  10. Jeremy says:

I’m going to take this opportunity to air a couple of complaints about Burger King. Not that the “Buck Double” for a dollar isn’t a good deal, but seriously, who do they think they’re kidding?

A big ad campaign touting this as a revolutionary idea doesn’t change the fact that they’re basically just shorting us a slice of cheese. I thought this was a cheap, shady move when McDonald’s dreamed up the McDouble and I think the same of Burger King doing it now. Is a second slice of cheese really necessary on a double cheeseburger? No, I suppose not. But I disagree with offering a double cheeseburger for a dollar, then taking away a piece of cheese and offering the sandwich for the same price.

The Burger Kings around town here (Columbia, SC) are now selling the double cheeseburger for $1.29. Why does an extra piece of cheese cost 29 cents?

I would also like to mention my long-standing issue with Burger King that if I ADD cheese to a sandwich such as the chicken tendercrisp (at least at the franchise stores in Columbia, SC), I am REQUIRED to add 2 slices of cheese and pay 50 cents more. The computer will ring up just one slice of cheese for 25 cents, but apparently the employees are told that they cannot ring up a single slice of cheese. (Though I have had them ring up the two slices of cheese for 50 cents and only put one slice on the sandwich.)

And finally, why is it that if I order onion rings I can get all the onion ring sauce (now called Zesty sauce) I want for free, but if I order fries then I’m told that onion ring sauce costs me 34 cents a container? I’m not a big fan of Burger King’s onion rings, but I absolutely love the onion ring sauce on the fries. Onion rings and fries are exactly the same price, but I have to pay for the sauce when I get fries?

Granted, these are minor complaints in the grand scheme of things, but sometimes I feel like the fast food places are nickeling and diming us to death and think we’re all too stupid to notice. I also wonder whether these issues I’ve noted are limited to my local Burger Kings or if they’re widespread problems.

I am a fan of Burger King and would choose them over McDonald’s almost any time. If there was a 24-hour Burger King in town I doubt I would ever go to McDonald’s again. I just hate to see them going down the same roads as McDonald’s in terms of service, marketing, etc.

    • Christian says:

You could always bring your own 2nd slice of cheese…

I can’t believe the entitlement mentality of some people. What, since they’ve been giving us a MAJOR deal for so long, you feel entitled to keep it when they have to now answer to rising overhead? Come on.

Buy one or the other or just go somewhere else. Spending so much time b*tching and moaning about this is a waste of time. You could be productive with your other endeavors instead.

  11. Herb says:

I think the Buck Double name was used cause it sounds closer to Mc Double

  12. So, basically what Burger King has done is find a way to still get us a double cheeseburger for a dollar, without causing them to lose profit. If you want the second slice of cheese, you still have the option of getting it for the extra 29 cents. Some of you are mistaken, though. Saying a second slice of cheese is not necessary on a double cheeseburger is foolish, as it is, after all, a DOUBLE CHEESEBURGER. Having only one slice of cheese is almost like a “double hamburger with cheese”. And at least one of you thinks this is like a Whopper Jr., which it is not.

    • jerry says:

GOSH REVERAN, BK IS A LOT LIKE JESUS, THEY FOUND ANOTHER WAY TO FEED THE MULTITUDES , SO REVEREND , ENJOY LIKE THE MILLIONS OF “US” OTHERS.

  13. Patrick says:

Burger King has got to have some one of the laziest marketing departments in the country. They are basically copying a lazy idea that has already been done by mcdonalds. Also Burger King shrunk their whopper jr./cheeseburger patties from 2.2 oz to 2.0 oz about a year ago.

  14. Moku says:

The Buck Double is a great value menu burger and a great name. Of course it’s a knock off of the McDouble, but at least we still can get some sort of double cheeseburger without the franchises going ballistic over their slim margins. It’s easy to yell you want one or two Buck Doubles instead of BK whatchamacallitburger at the drive thru. The BK Breakfast Muffin is bad name. You have to say BK breakfast muffin with sausage or you can say sausage muffin and hope you get the 1 dollar muffin or whatever else the drive thru worker thinks you said.

  15. Ronald McDonald says:

I remember when the Whoppers were 99 cents.

  16. JL says:

here in nyc – the buck double is a buck.
the double cheeseburger lists for $2.19…

buck double with extra cheese: $1.20.

    Burger King arbitrage?

  17. Mike N says:

Just got one a few hours ago — unfortunately it was a pretty sh*tty BK and it took forever (I ordered it ketchup only) but, for a $1.07 after tax, it was pretty darn tasty. I’d like to try to add lettuce and tomato and see if/what they’d charge me for it…

  18. Gaotzeng says:

    UH who cares AMERICA!!!
its a freaken fast food joint!

    Get a life!!!!!!!!

  19. Nate says:

    It’s flamed broiled too idiots!!!

  20. Liam says:

Just had one of these and for some reason mine was slathered in A-1 sauce. It was actually pretty good that way and I think I might request it like that again.

Now what I heard was that the franchises were previously being made to sell the double cheeseburger for $1 at a loss which led them to sueing bk headquarters or somthing. I guess as the price of food goes up that whats happens and probably has a lot to do with the doublecheeseburger is no longer on the $ menu at mcd’s either and why the whopper jr is like a goddamn 1.50. And that wendy’s 99cent menu is long fuckin gone fuck!!

  21. Person says:

I honestly don’t care or notice that they took away a slice of cheese.

  22. jerry says:

ALL THESE JERKS LEAVING ALL THESE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE BUCK DOUBLE, I THINK THERE GREAT , SO WHAT ITS GOT ONLY ONE SLICE OF CHEESE, AND IF YOU ADD LETTUCE AND TOMATO, YOU GOT A MINI WHOPPER , WHATS BETTER THAN THAT. 23. jerry says:

WE MIGHT AS WELL THROW IN KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKENS DOLLAR ITEM, THE CHICKEN SANDWITCH. THESE TWO ARE MY FAVORITES,,,,THE BUCK AND KFC` CHICKEN. ALSO ARE WENDYS, WHOSE SANDWICH TASTE GREAT, LOOK AT ALL THIS CONVIENCE, AND ALL ARE A DOLLAR.. SO GO ON AND COMPLIAN , YOU FOOLS,, I WANT GO HUNGRY,,,,,

  24. jerry says:

I BUY THESE A DOZEN AT THE TIME, JUST SO I CAN HAVE SOME AT HOME FOR SNACKS,,,,,,THERE GREAT .

  25. jerry says:

ENOUGH OF THIS HOG-WASH , I`M GOING DOWN TO BK, AND BUT SOME $1.00 BUCK DOUBLES… SEE U THERE

  26. Dan says:

Do you know what a cheap moron is? Burger King is losing money on every Buck Double sold. That is the reality. They do not want to sell them. If you ask for a double cheesburger that is what you get, not the buck double. It costs $1.29 and maybe they break even. You will see the Buck Double vanish when the economy gets better. You can be sure of that. Better buy more than a dozen.

    • Elle says:

Dan was right, unfortunately. The buck double is no longer. It has been replaces recently with the “single stack”. You can get a double cheese burger for 1.49 on the regular menu. I bet I will lose ten pounds now that they are gone!

  27. Elle says:

Dan was right, unfortunately. The buck double is no longer. It has been replaces recently with the “single stack”. You can get a double cheese burger for 1.49 on the regular menu. I bet I will lose ten pounds now that they are gone!

  28. Carol says:

I went for my regular Saturday night Buck Double only to find it is no longer available. I drove out and went across the street to McDonalds and got their dollar double instead! Ha.

  29. Ronnie says:

Buck doubles no longer available! To BK Corp; You guys are getting to the point where it’s too expensive to eat at your stores. In any case, you lost me as a regular customer. I’ll be having McDoubles instead.

  30. chris says:

u guys do know that Mcdoubles are minus the slice of cheese also right?..so heres the thing…there’s starting to be too many cheeseburger options…how about a McDouble Halver….80 cents but it only has a half slice of cheese?..the McGovernated..using govt discount cheese for .60 cents?…where in gods name will it end.

  31. Mitch says:

The economy is failing. Invest in silver now. That is what killed the buck double. Trust me u don’t have much time. Trust me theworld is about to change

  32. FORGET BURGER KING says:

Welcome to Burger King, may I take your order?? May I have a Buck Double?? NO, we no longer offer it since we can’t make enough money off you !!!! So I order the BK Stacker…….wait, check this out…..SOMEONE IS CUTTING THE PIECES OF BACON IN HALF !!!!! YES, YOU HEARD IT RIGHT…… WE ARE GOING TO GIVE YOU TO PIECES OF BACON, BUT REALLY IT’S ONLY ONE PIECE CUT IN HALF AND BASICALLY HIDING UNDER THE BUN, UNLIKE THE PHOTO SHOWS IN WHICH THEY PLAY GAMES AND MAKE IT LOOK LIKE MORE. McDonalds HERE I COME….at least there they don’t try scams like cutting a piece of bacon in half and making it look like two or more pieces in a promo picture. BE HONEST AND TREAT US FAIRLY AND WE WILL BUY FROM YOU. USE SLIDE OF HAND AND PLAY GAMES WITH PHOTOS AND WE BUY FROM YOUR COMPETITION.
