Food News: New French Fries at Jack in the Box

March 09, 2010 By: Ryan Category: Food News

Domino’s came out with a new pizza recipe earlier this year and Jack in the Box is doing the same but with their french fries.  This month, Jack in the Box will debut a new taste to their menu in the form of a revamped french fry recipe. Available at participating restaurants and approx. priced at $1.39 (small), $1.79 (medium) and $1.99 (large).

French fry connoisseurs are a most discerning sort, perhaps even more so than their wine-tasting counterparts. Whereas wine aficionados practice five basic evaluations – color, swirl, smell, taste and savor – a true fries connoisseur also considers things like crispness, temperature, even freshness. The culinary experts for Jack in the Box® restaurants have crunched all of these criteria, and more, in creating what they believe to be Jack’s best-ever French fries. Jack in the Box will begin rolling out the new French fries this month.

  1. I hope they are better than the “natural” fries, those suck. JITB used to have good fries.

  2. The press release has me laughing my a** off – french frie connisuers [I don't care to spell it right - it is in fact a dichotomy anyway. FRENCH FRIES?]

It harkens back to BK changing the oil or what not of their fries and they now suck all things fast food – oone of the reasons I put BK last in line if I want a burger and fries. No deal on the fries.

I bet JITB has gone the same way and ruined a good thing. At least their statement is lagh inducing.

If that’s a picture of the new fries, they look quite different. Very thin, rather like McDonald’s fries, in fact. The current regular fries at JitB are indeed horrid, only get their curly fries when I eat there.

  4. Fries are so easy to make, why do so many places fail at them? I am not sure why BK doesn’t get the point…there is nothing wrong with their burgers, but their fries are the worst in the business. They are literally instant mashed potatoes that are formed to look like fries.

McDonalds, Rally’s, Penn Station and Five Guys have great fries. It gets pretty bad after those 4.

    5
  5. They look like Steak and Shake shoelace fries, which are delicious but get cold way to fast.

Too bad there is not a JitB around me.. :\

  6. Wish we’d get some JITBs here in NJ. I always eat there (along with Del Taco & Carl’s Jr) when I go out to Vegas and love them. They show JITB TV commercials ALL the time here in Jersey, but the closest one is in North Carolina….WTF???

    • They used to be in the NYC area before I was born (so 1970s and early 80s) – I think most of the locations became Nathan’s, Checkers, White Castle or don’t exist.

      Tis a shame.

They look kind of like the nasty BK fries. I hope for the sake of those who live near a Jack, that this isn’t the case.

I’m with Skippymom. When it comes to fast food, BK dropped the ball over a decade ago. Their food is just plain bad anymore. The Whopper has become a joke of it’s former self, and the fries are just terrible. BK needs a complete overhaul. The only reason I might stop at one, is for a $1 double, but when I’m finished eating them, I regret it every single time. Their fake flame broiled flavor sticks around like crazy cheap date.

They are just like bk fries. Why is it soo hard to make a decent fry?

Eh, I just tried the new fries as well and they are similar to Burger King fries, so they’re a bit “eh”. I never was a fan of Jack in the Box’s fries, but this was a weird decision on their part.

I doubt that many people will like these. I think that the people who think up and test these weird recipe-change decisions are probably smokers, whose taste-buds have been dulled.
