Linked Review: McDonald’s Angus Third Pounder
The crew over at We-Rate-Stuff had a chance to try the latest burger from McDonald’s. The Angus Third Pounder was well received. The Angus line is expected to go nationwide in August. A select number of markets currently carry the burgers. As soon as I come across it, I’ll give it a shot. Until then, click the picture below and check out the We-Rate-Stuff review.

Is my reading comprehension off? I read that they said it was just an average burger (which it is, I’ve had it). But if you’re getting some money from McDonald’s to advertise this, delete my comment, or I’ll just say that I’m just kidding! I love McDonald’s!
I’m just kidding, McDonald’s is great. I love McDonald’s.
1Haha…We’re getting zero point zero to advertise this actually. I figured it was pretty well received…the WRS guys gave it a 5 score…they have a funny 1-7 grade scale..hehe…5/7 score….not bad.
2@Francois – They seemed to like it but just weren’t all that impressed by it. Good but not great.
I’m sure everyone remembers the adult marketed Arch Deluxe line in the mid-90s….it didn’t last too long. This is basically the same thing…and yeah, they’re late on the chain. McDs need only do what they do. People love them for the nostalgia (sort of)…what I mean is people get what they’ve always gotten there, they should let Jack in the Box, Carl’s Jr., etc. worry about all the craziness.
3The Angus is by far and away the worst fast food burger I have ever had. I actually ordered a second one thinking there just must have been something wrong with the first one I had, but no the next was just as bad. The main problem is the burgers are very dry, the bread is dry, the meat is not at all juicy. The mushroom topping is very bland on there mushroom swiss version. My friends who have tried these burgers, and also agree that they are terrible. Im a big fan of the Big Mac and Quarter Pounder, these are just a disgrace. There is no reason to buy one of these when there is a Hardees or 5 Guys close by.
4I like how they are going after two demographics with one sandwich. First, you have the adult-targeted quality Angus beef. Second, based on the photo above, you have the urban-targeted crooked lid on all three burgers. Hat 2 da side!
5@Francois yeah, we rate stuff on an absurd scale lol, but it works out pretty well I think
Ryan! You are a great man. I hope the burger gods bestow these upon you as soon as possible.
6“The Crew?” Never felt so badass before. Thanks Ryan, WRS loves you.
7@boyer66 that sounds unfortunate, but to be fair I got another today, and it was literally dripping with grease. it was far from dry
8Is it as rubbery as the Steakhouse XT from Burger King?
If so, that’s a death sentence for it. If not, it’s definitely going to be a hit.
9@justin haha, that sandwich is like eating a deflated football. no, the beef in these is actually pretty real tasting/feeling
10I agree with Bear – let McDonald’s do what they do best. My favorite at McDonald’s is the Big Mac, but its so unhealthy that my goto is usually the “Grilled Chicken Honey Mustard Snack Wraps”. If I ever come across these burgers, though, I might just have to give one a try.
11I love the mushroom swiss burger. I don’t eat them often due to the price.
12I haven’t eaten at McDonalds over 15 years, until a week ago. I’m a Johnny Rockets fan. I tried the angus bacon and cheese and found it to be delicious. It was so juicy (not dry), hot off the grill and the crispy bacon was sinfully delicious. Wow! I found myself there the next day to try the mushroom swiss because I love mushrooms. It was decent, but the angus bacon and cheese is my guilty pleasure.
13I liked the burger, but it gave me bad guess which is rare since I have a high metabolism
14These burgers are real good. So juicy that the juice puddles up on the paper wrap you use for your plate. The buns are primo!
15The Swiss-mushroom burger: Tried one – after two bites and lifting the lid to look inside, I was pretty disturbed to see that it was SLATHERED heavily with mayo. Mayo on a swiss & mushroom burger?!!! Outrageous. I couldn’t notice any swiss at all because of all that mayo! So I took it back to the counter and asked if they would please give it to me without mayo. No problem. Ate it and loved it – the swiss has a good bold taste. Plenty of mushrooms, although they are pretty thin. Regardless, I’ll get this great burger again & again.
My wife had the Bacon Cheeseburger, which she loved, but she commented that it should have mayo on it rather than the ketchup/mustard mix that it comes with.
GREAT burger! I have eaten only the Bacon and Cheese, and I thought it was delicious. It is nice to have a McD burger w/thick- cut red onions. And i usually say “”no pickles” on my burger(because the ones I have had at McDs’ sux), but these new pickles are quite tasty and add real depth to the sandwich. The beef and bun was not dry. And a McD burger w/ bacon—BACON— on it was great!
16I had one of the new angus burgers in Lubbock, TX and it was terrible and terribly overpriced. I have eaten at almost every McDonald’s in the city several times and I went to the best and most consistent location to try this new menu item. I had the mushroom and swiss version. The meat and bun were very dry. The mushrooms and swiss cheese were dissapointingly bland. I thought they may have made a mistake with my burger, but after talking to friends and family that have also tried them I realize that I am not alone in being let down by this new item. Do yourself a favor and avoid the angus burger from McDonalds. It simply sucks.
17Upchuck! Gag! Awful! Worse burger I ever ate and tried three time. Yuck! The food scientist who came up with this should be fired!
18Anyone who actually likes the taste of angus burger
19would be better off going to a sporting goods store and
buying a deer salt-lick block and sucking on chunks of that.
Without a doubt the nastiest tasting burger on the planet.
McDonalds needs to rename this the anus burger which is exactly
where they can shove this pos.
I had the Deluxe the other day and I have to say, WOW. I had no idea the sandwich was going to be that big!! The combo cost me like 6 dollars or so, but it filled me up amazingly fast. The bun was thick, the meat was juicy and filling, and the toppings, that’s what did it for me. Thick Pickles, juicy tomatoe, crisp red onion and whole leaf lettuce! My only complaint is that they used a tad bit too much mayonnaise. Overall, great fast food burger, will get again!
20I am hooked on the bacon cheese angus. This is the best McDonald’s burger I have ever been served. The mushrrom and swiss burger doesn’t appeal to me, but the Deluxe and the Bacon Cheese are grea! Will definitely have another!
21the bacon and cheese angus burger is like a taste of heaven!it so so juicy and mouthwatering!!!!it tastes so amazing!Mcdonalds rules!
22Hmm…..sorry, I don’t buy it.
I tried this mess of a “burger”.
It ain’t good.
The posts saying things like “thick..”, “juicy…”, “crisp…” sound like ringers from Mcd’s posting on here.
23Even the best 1/4lber wouldn’t have me raving like some of these posts.
Most fast food cook too much at once and let it sit there.
The best you can do is get something around 11am to about 1pm, and maybe around 3-5pm, when more people eat so the food doesn’t sit that long.
It may not be too bad of a burger if they just slowed down and let us wait 5 or 10 minutes for FRESH food. I don’t know why these places think I HAVE to have my food in less than 30 seconds.
I’m sure most people would prefer to wait a bit and have some quality rather than moving so fast that they can’t even get the order right 50% of the time.
McD’s corporate need to change their “order to serve” time allotment, and go with a “order to quality” SLOW DOWN and make it RIGHT and GOOD, mantra.
If they would concentrate on that I’ll bet more of us would go there to enjoy a meal rather than go there cause we just need something fast. “Fast food” shouldn’t mean crap.
I cook, and I KNOW it doesn’t take but a few minutes to cook a burger that’s that thin.
The best fast food around Chicago is Dairy Queen Brazier stores, which are rare. But, they make the food WHEN you order it.
You actually do wait from 5-10 minutes, but every time I’ve found one, I ENJOYED the food and didn’t regret having to wait.
Wendy’s say they do this but just last week I had some of WORST fries I’ve ever eaten, dark brown and dry.
A lot of this is also due to poor management. Many of these people couldn’t manage their way out of a paper bag. Longer wait time equals BETTER food quality that equals MORE return customers and higher sales. Trying to keep costs down by serving old food only leads to constantly having to serve old food that results in reduced customers, and that’s why you product doesn’t move fast enough to keep it fresh.
Quality food? What a concept!
