Fast Food Food Review: Chicken Nuggets from Chick-fil-A

April 14, 2009 By: James Category: Chicken, Reviews

Tender, juicy and flavorful are three words that can be used to describe the chicken at Chick-fil-A.  This definitely is the case when it comes to their nuggets.  Just about every fast food stop has their own version of the chicken nugget, but in my opinion they all pale in comparison to the Chicken Nuggets at Chick-fil-A.

Chicken Nuggets from Chick-fil-A

Order some nuggets from McDonald’s or Burger King and you’re likely to get dried out, extra breaded chicken.  At Chick-fil-A, that isn’t the case.  The nuggets are tender pieces of seasoned chicken breast.  The chicken is pressure cooked in peanut oil and covered in a light breading that adds just the right amount of texture.

Chicken nuggets aren’t very customizable, but Chick-fil-A gives you a plethora of options when it comes dipping sauces. You have the run of the mill BBQ, Ranch and Honey Mustard sauces.  They also offer Polynesian sauce (similar to sweet and sour), a spicy Buffalo Sauce and Chick-fil-A sauce (BBQ and mustardy concoction that is quite tasty).  The nuggets come in servings to satisfy any hunger.  If you are starving you can order a 8 or 12 pack, and if you are in need of a little snack you can order 4 or 6 nuggets.  Hell, you can even order just 1 nugget to go along with your meal too (based on the info when ordering online, 34 cents for 1 nugget).

Chick-fil-A Dipping Sauces

While these are my favorite nuggets around, they are not without fault.  The first thing you notice is the spots of grease beginning to soak through the box.  As I mentioned earlier, the nuggets are pressure-cooked in peanut oil and are somewhat greasy.  It’s really a minor gripe when considering the great taste.  These nuggets are reasonably priced.  A standard 8-pack will set you back $2.69. Also it’s important to note that an 8-pack is only 260 calories. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, they’re even available at breakfast in mini chicken sandwich form.  It’s no mystery that this is the way nuggets should be done.  This is some of the best fast food chicken around and by far the leader in the pack as far as fast food nuggets are concerned.

  • Pros: Tender, tasty white meat chicken breast.  Perfect amount of breading.  Good number of dipping options.  Reasonably priced and not too high in calories (about 33 calories per nugget).
  • Cons: Can be overly greasy.

  2. I’ll be honest with you…I’m a sauce whore. I love love love sauces. I’ll dip pretty much anything in pretty much anything (that doesn’t make much sense). I love condiments…they usually make the meal to me. That’s one reason I like Indian & Thai food so much.

    I don’t know how I feel about having the Chick-n-Mini for breakfast…that’s a bit much…don’t ya think?

  3. @ Bear

Yeah I was once skeptical on chicken for breakfast. The Breakfast Chick-n-Mini’s are really good. I bought a 40 count platter for some of my co-workers and they were gone in a flash. They also have a chicken breakfast burrito that I have yet to try. Chick-fil-A has non-chicken breakfast foods too….Sausage/Egg/Cheese…Bacon/Egg/Cheese…Breakfast Burritos..etc.

  4. I love all boneless chickens. Doesn’t matter when/where/what shape because I don’t care. If it’s chicken without bones, I’m going to eat it.

If there are bones I might puke. I don’t know why.

  5. I consider it sacrilicious to besmirch Chicken McNuggets, the Holy Grail of fried and processed pieces of poultry.

  6. I think you need to join CA (Chick-fil-a Anonymous) I had some other off color comments, but this is a family blog.

  7. @ Ken…Yeah I agree. I grew up w McNuggets. At 25cents a piece, I’ll usually load up with three 4-packs for $3. I agree w Burger King though, not a big fan of their chicken tenders.
